Participants at the 2012 Youth Science Discovery Experience have the opportunity to explore the scenic beauty of Canaan Valley through a variety of program events. Canaan Valley Institute is located on a nearly 3,000 acre campus, with miles of pristine trail and stream beds available for exploration.
Students and teachers have the chance to explore this environment both through short day trips as part of the Seminar series, and through a backcountry overnighter, occurring on the final weekend at YSDE. This overnight camping trip offers a break from the rigorous academic work of preparing research presentations. Backcountry trips also serve to strengthen relationships among traveling companions and develop leadership skills and confidence.
